SINGAPORE: What to Order at Matchaya

July 18, 2023

SINGAPORE: WHAT TO ORDER AT MATCHAYA

Glad to be back at Matchaya! I first tasted this in March 2020 before the pandemic lockdown. For matcha lovers, this is the best place to go for your matcha fix. But for my daughter who's not a fan of matcha, she says that she would go back for the Signature Koicha Milk she ordered because IT'S THAT GOOD! It seems that for both matcha lovers and non-matcha lovers, this is a place you can both hang out together.

WHAT TO ORDER

Uji Matcha soft-serve ice cream cone
(6 sgd)

Uji Matcha soft-serve ice cream cup
(6.70 sgd for regular, 8.50 sgd for upsize)

 Signature Koicha Milk
(9 sgd if cold, 8.50 sgd if hot)

SINGAPORE HOTEL REVIEW: Why I Love Fraser Place Robertson Walk

July 15, 2023

SINGAPORE HOTEL REVIEW:
WHY I LOVE FRASER PLACE ROBERTSON WALK

LOCATION: Location is superb. It's very near the MRT (450m walk), and several bus stops (250m walk). It has a grocery nearby. There's a wine store beside it (Wine Connection) that sells good and budget friendly wines. It's also very near several restaurants serving various cuisines.

SERVICE: Housekeeping is exemplary. They are very responsive to the requests of guests. Rooms are kept very clean.

ROOMS: The rooms are very spacious and have a very good layout. It is as beautiful as shown in the photos in their site. We got the 3 bedroom premier for 6 adults. But drainage in the shower must be addressed. It drains slowly when we were there February 2023. That's why I only gave 4 stars rating for the room. I didn't put any photos of the room anymore coz it looks the same as the one in the website. Check out their website at https://www.frasershospitality.com/en/singapore/fraser-place-robertson-walk-singapore/accommodation/ for more photos and details

TOILETS AND BATH: It's very hard to find accommodations in Singapore that will provide 2 toilets and bath for 6 people in one property or room, unless you book 2 hotel rooms for 6 people or 3 hotel rooms for 6 people. Since we want to be together in one room, this property is a find. When the kids were small, we used to get by with one toilet and bath for the 6 of us. But when the kids became adults, we now need at least 2 toilets and bath for the 6 of us. Otherwise, it would be ages before we can go out of the hotel.

BREAKFAST: I love their buffet breakfast. It is not as wide in variety as a hotel breakfast but they are sufficient to cover the preferences of a family of different age groups. They are delicious and cooked very well. They have American, Continental and Asian breakfast. I especially love their croissant and cappuccino. They are also very generous with their breakfast. They provide lunch boxes in their room so you can bring back breakfast to your room if you wish. They also provide disposable cups so you can also bring back coffee to your room if you wish.

For cheapest rates, check out Fraser Place Robertson Walk  HERE

FREE SHUTTLE: They have free shuttle buses to Orchard and Suntec.

OTHER AMENITIES: The gym is sufficient in size and equipment. The pool is great even for small kids.

The only con is that you need to book this property for at least 6 nights.

We love the place so much so we booked it again for our Singapore trip next year.

SINGAPORE: Fraser Place Robertson Walk Breakfast Buffet Review

SINGAPORE: Fraser Place Robertson Walk

Breakfast Buffet Review

I love the accommodations at Fraser Place Robertson Walk!!! Among the things I love is their breakfast buffet. It's not overwhelmingly plenty but each item was of very good quality and well prepared. You can choose an American or Asian breakfast, have eggs cooked at the egg station in the way you prefer, either scrambled, boiled or sunny side up, and have limitless croissant, bread, cereal, pastry, salad, fruits, tea, juice, yogurt and of course, coffee. I love their cappuccino! Plus you can bring back to your room more food because they provide shiok shiok lunchbox in your room for that purpose. You can bring back more coffee to your room coz they provide disposable.

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE IN SINGAPORE

May 27, 2023

WHERE TO FIND THE BEST HAINANESE CHICKEN RICE IN SINGAPORE

We tried out Hainanese Delicacy as seen from Food Affair by Mark Wiens (Migrationology). Superb Hainanese chicken rice! The taste of chicken is very clean and refreshing, tender and moist. Even the cucumbers that go with it are delicately flavored. One whole chicken is good for 8 servings but our group of 5 was able to finish it quickly. Our standards for Hainanese chicken rice just went up. It's the best Hainanese chicken rice we've eaten in Singapore, much better than the Tian Tian Hainanese chicken rice popular among the tourists. Worth the long walk from our place to Far East Plaza!

MY TIP: Best time to arrive is after lunch. We are a group of 5. We arrived 130pm  and was seated in 10 minutes. Groups of 2 are seated immediately. There are only 2 big tables that can accommodate a group of 5.

WHO CAN USE THE AUTOMATED IMMIGRATION LANES AT CHANGI AIRPORT

March 7, 2023

WHO CAN USE THE AUTOMATED IMMIGRATION LANES AT CHANGI AIRPORT

Philippine passport holders are now eligible to use the automated immigration lanes at Changi Airport. Just make sure to fill up the online SG arrival card before going through immigration. The online SG arrival card can be submitted as early as 3 days before arrival at Changi Airport up to the moment before passing through immigration. Changi Airport provides free WiFi access the moment you enter the airport so you can submit the SG arrival card even upon arriving at the airport.

Other requirements to be eligible to use the automated lanes:
1. Must be aged 6 and above.
2. Must hold a passport with validity of more than 6 months.

How to use the automated immigration lanes:
1. On the first gate, insert your passport with the data page (where your photo is) face down on the machine.
2. When the first gate opens, pass through it then insert your thumb on the machine and have your photo taken to open the 2nd gate. Then that's it!

How to use the regular immigration lanes (for manual processing):
1. Submit your passport to the immigration officer.
2. Show the email confirming your submission of the SG arrival card.
3. Have your photo taken and your thumbprint scanned. Then that's it!

In a few minutes, you shall receive an email of your electronic visit pass! Welcome to Singapore! 😊

Passport holders from the ff countries are now allowed to use the automated immigration lanes.

MY TIP:
1. Make sure to have the confirmation email of your submission of the SG arrival card on hand in case you encounter a problem at the automated immigration l lanes and are forced to use the regular immigration lanes.

2. At departure, also use the automated immigration lanes so you can avail of the automated boarding system

IN THE PHOTO BELOW IS A LIST OF PASSPORT HOLDERS WHO CAN USE THE AUTOMATED IMMIGRATION LANES.

SINGAPORE: What to Order at ADRIFT Restaurant, Marina Bay Sands

Adrift is a restaurant by Michelin-starred Celebrity American Chef, David Myers. Adrift is located at the Hotel Lobby, Tower 2 of the Marina Bay Sands. It's the first time we tried this restaurant and we really loved the food. So I'm recommending the food we ordered.

This is the Hotel Lobby in Tower 2 of the Marina Bay Sands where Adrift is located.
The restaurant is dark and cozy inside.

WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND ORDERING THE FOLLOWING:

SALAD

Mesclun Salad
with asparagus, pomegranate and pecorino
16 SGD

Warm duck salad
with mizuna nam jim
16 SGD

MAIN COURSE

When we asked the waiter what the signature meals of Adrift are, he recommended these.

Adrift Wagyu Burger and Fries
with tomato jam, gruyere and pickled jalapenos
28 SGD

Iberico Pork Chop
with umeboshi glaze and leek shoots
32 SGD

DESSERT

Yuzu cheesecake

COCKTAILS:

I highly recommend that you try the cocktails. They are created by Sam Ross, a famous bar consultant and icon of the New York bar scene (see HERE). He created the Penicillin cocktail (made of blended scotch, fresh lemon, ginger, honey and islay float). You should try the Penicillin cocktail. I was not adventurous so I tried my usual Margarita. The Margarita was great!

The Margarita
Tequila, cointreau
23 SGD
