WINE REVIEW: Hentley Farm The Beauty Shiraz 2014

August 15, 2023

WINE REVIEW: Hentley Farm The Beauty Shiraz 2014

My review: Spicy on the nose. White pepper, liquorice, plum, with a hint of vanilla. It's a Shiraz co-fermented with viognier. Complex and delicate flavors at the same time. Long finish. Absolutely wonderful and superb flavors.

Region: Barossa Valley

WINE REVIEW: Beaulieu Vineyard 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa Valley

August 13, 2023

WINE REVIEW:
Beaulieu Vineyard 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon
 from Napa Valley

My review: Plum and black cherry. Perfectly balanced salty and sweet, savory with a hint of oak. Pairs perfectly with cured meats like prosciutto and Jamon Serrano. It can also double as a dessert wine coz it does well in cleansing the palate after a meal.

Region: Napa Valley
Country: Australia
Grape variety: 93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petite Sirah, 2% Cabernet Franc

WINE REVIEW: Cape Mentelle Chardonnay 2018 from Margaret River, Australia

March 9, 2023

WINE REVIEW: Cape Mentelle Chardonnay 2018
from Margaret River, Australia

Superb chardonnay. Light and refreshing,  with the right balance of acidity. Full bodied flavor of toasted brioche, butter, peach, melon and a hint of lemon. Pleasurable to the palate, with a very long finish.

WINE REVIEW: Elderton Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz 2015.

June 23, 2022

WINE REVIEW: Elderton Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz 2015

Slow Saturday afternoon watching The Sopranos with an Elderton Neil Ashmead Grand Tourer Shiraz 2015.

My review: Highly recommended. I would describe it as spicy with savory finish. Leather on the nose. Lots of character. Not the typical fruity shiraz. Peppery with herbal, eucalyptus finish. Very rich! Lots of berries, liquorice and oak on the palate.

True to the description at the back of the bottle: "the wine is exuberant lively and full of character."

Winery: Elderton

Region: Barossa Valley

Country: Australia

Grape variety: Australian Shiraz

Morgon 2019 by Domaine Mathieu and Camille Lapierre: My Review

August 6, 2021

WINE REVIEW: Morgon 2019 by Domaine Mathieu and Camille Lapierre

It's my first time to drink Beaujolais and I'm trying to recall where I first encountered it in a song. Google to the rescue! It was Barry Manilow's song, No Other Love. That was the first time I heard it and I always wondered what it tastes like.

A light and refreshing Cru Beaujolais red wine is perfect for a warm sunny Friday afternoon. If you want a light and refreshing wine (which is usually associated with whites) but are in the mood for a red, go for a Cru Beaujolais red wine. It's best served cold, unlike other red wines.

Morgon 2019 came from a Beaujolais Cru, which is not an ordinary Beaujolais vineyard. A Beaujolais Cru can label the wine by the Cru name only. In this case, they call it Morgon, instead of Beaujolais.

Wine: Morgon 2019 by Domaine Marcel Lapierre

My Review:

Leather on the nose. Maraschino Cherry and raspberry flavor. Soft tannins. Very light and refreshing. Perfect for a warm day. If you want a light and refreshing wine (which is usually associated with whites) but are in the mood for a red, go for this Beaujolais. Best served cold, unlike other red wines. All the different flavor of fruit surfaces when it's cold.

What Pasta to Pair with Italian Wine

What Pasta to Pair with Italian Wine

I'm neither a wine or food connoisseur but I enjoy wine and food and wish to share with you what I discover when pairing food with wine. If you have the same taste as I then you will enjoy it the same way I did.

We had Spaghetti Putanesca and Spaghetti al Fredo for dinner last night. So the challenge was to find what wine pairs with it and I discovered the ff.
