ADDITIONAL SECURITY SCREENING BEFORE CHECKING-IN FOR AUSTRALIA FLIGHTS.

This is what happens at Cebu Pacific Air check-in counter:

If you're taking the Manila to Australia flights , make sure to alot additional time for the additional security screening before check-in. You line up twice at check-in: first, for the swab testing of the INSIDE of your check-in luggage for chemical residue, and second, for the checking in of luggage and issuance of boarding pass. YOU CANNOT CHECK-IN YOUR LUGGAGE WITHOUT YOUR LUGGAGE BEING SWABBED FIRST AND CLEARED OF CHEMICAL RESIDUE. 

MY TIPS:

1. Arrive at the check-in counter 4 hours before departure. 

Checking in at the Cebu Pacific counter, from lining up, swabbing and issuance of boarding pass took 1.5 hours.

Good thing the flight is at 1 pm. The immigration line is usually short during late mornings for early afternoon flights.

2. Pack your things in a suitcase rather than a sealed box. 

It will be difficult to put everything back and seal it once they open it to swab the inside of your box. Pack your things in an orderly fashion so nothing gets misplaced once they open the luggage.

3. Make sure that a blue sticker has been placed on your luggage to indicate that your luggage has been inspected and swabbed. 

Sometimes the handlers fail to put a sticker. It happened to us. So we reminded them. So I don't know exactly what will happen to the luggage if it was checked in without the sticker.

Regarding the carry on luggage, they don't inspect it at check-in. But they thoroughly check the contents of the carry-on at the boarding gate, before boarding the plane.

Lounge access is COMPLIMENTARY to cardholders of BDO American Express Platinum credit card, Unionbank credit card, BDO Diamond rewards card, Security bank credit card, among others. Please check the website of your credit card company. Lounge access benefits vary per card, and per card type.

If you don't have the following credit cards, you can walk-in and use the lounge for 3 hours  by paying 1400 pesos or 25 USD. 

LOCATION: after immigration and security, adjacent to Bay 9, West Satellite. 

Note: Buffet is halal certified

MY TIP: Arrive at the airport at least 3 hours before your flight so you'll have time to use the lounge. If it's a long weekend, you must arrive at the airport at least 4 hours before a flight.

1. Arrive at the airport at least 4 hours before departure.

Since most of the airlines have completed transfer to terminal 3 already, expect long lines at immigration. It can range from 30min to 1 hour. If your flight falls on a holiday or a 3-day weekend, the line at immigration can be more than an hour. Others have experienced 2 hours at immigration 

The Cebu Pacific check-in counter opens 5 hours before departure so you can choose to arrive earlier than 4 hours before departure. 

2. Make sure to check in online even if they don't issue a boarding pass.

The line is usually shorter for those who checked in online.

3. Pay travel tax online to reduce the time lining up at the airport.

You can go to tieza.gov.ph or myeg.ph. If you pay using credit card or debit card, the acknowledgement receipt is emailed to you in 5 min. 

3. Get the etravel.gov.ph qr code. It replaces the paper immigration card. 

Even if they don't scan it, sometimes they ask you to show it before you can enter the immigration area.

4. Make sure you're at the gate 1 hour before departure.

Cebu Pacific usually changes gates at the last minute and they herd the people to the new gate. The monitors don't get updated. It's OK if the new gate is near the old gate. But if it's far, you can be easily be left by the plane if they make the last boarding call and don't see people near the gate. People without check in luggage are easily bumped off. There's no luggage to unload from the plane.

FACILITIES AND AMENITIES

The lounge has free food, free softdrinks, free water, free coffee and free wifi. Take note that there is no toilet in the lounge.

Reception

You need to present your ID, boarding pass and credit card.

Inside the small lounge

You request food and drinks from the waiter then take your seat. This method actually keeps everything orderly in the small lounge.

1. The pickup areas are numbered Bay 1-6.

Before, the areas were identified by letters and passengers were picked according to the Ist letter of their surnames.

2. No loading and unloading in front of the bays.

For active loading, you need to find a slot across the bays where you can park to load your passenger.

3. The yellow metered taxi counter can be found beside bay 6.

4. The following facilities and services are available in the arrival area: foreign exchange counters, Smart Telecom booth, Globe Telecom booth, pay phones, duty free shop, PAL and Cebu Pacific ticketing booth, and a toilet.
